Occupational Therapist
Rafferty Laredo is an occupational therapist with more than twelve years’ experience. He has a special interest in spinal cord injuries with a wide experience in the spectrum of neurological and orthopedic disorders. He served as Occupational Therapy Clinical Coordinator at TIRR Memorial Hermann for a number of years and joined PPG in mid-2011 to focus on the team’s home health services.
Rafferty’s treatment philosophy is grounded in promoting meaningful quality of life beyond disability. He has advanced skills in community reintegration, bowel and bladder management, rehabilitation technology, ventilator management, and wheelchairs. He has co-authored chapters in SCI texts and has contributed to a number of SCI clinical practice guidelines.
Rafferty graduated from Baylor University in 1997 with a BA in psychology; he received his occupational therapy degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in 1999 and completed his Master’s degree in occupational therapy in 2005 at Texas Women’s University in Houston. Rafferty has international experience (Abu Dhabi, UAE) in designing, implementing, and staffing a neuro-clinic in the home of a traumatic brain injury patient.
Rafferty has lived in Houston for more than thirty years. He is currently Executive Director of the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association and received the 2011 Excellence Award from the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals for his work in the SCI/D community.
